Maya on GENERAL HOSPITAL — Everything You Need to Know
Maya was only on GENERAL HOSPITAL for just over a year, so it’s completely understandable if some viewers don’t remember her at all or don’t remember everything about her. The character was introduced back in March 2010 and was played by Annie Ilonzeh until her exit from GH in June 2011.
Maya Ward was the great-granddaughter of Edward Quartermaine and Mary Mae Ward, so when her stepmother died in a car accident leaving her as the guardian of her little sister, Zoe, Edward invited her to come live at the mansion. She was first seen getting into a car accident with Ethan Lovett, but finally arrived at the Quartermaine home where she met the other members of the family. (Naturally, Tracy Quartermaine assumed she was just another long-lost relative looking for a handout.) A medical student in her final year, Maya impressed chief of staff Dr. Steve Webber, who hired her as an intern at the hospital.
Continuing to spar with Ethan, Maya eventually opened up to him about how her former boyfriend died of a gunshot wound while she was working in the ER. Soon after, Ethan was shot and when Maya tried to help him, she froze from the PTSD. After flirting for quite some time, Maya and Ethan eventually began dating and he asked for her help in getting his father, Luke Spencer, back together with Tracy. Maya helped fake Luke’s test results when he claimed he had a heart attack, and went with Ethan to Las Vegas to chaperone Luke’s plan to get Tracy drunk and marry her. Unfortunately, due to a mix-up, the drunk ones who actually tied the knot were Maya and Ethan!
They had already decided to wait on getting an annulment, and when Edward offered them a million dollars if they stayed married one year, they decided to go ahead and collect. But the following spring, Maya left town to deal with some business and when Ethan visited her in Philadelphia, he found her in bed with another man! Maya finally confessed to Ethan that she had been lying to him for a while and had no intention of going back to Port Charles. Realizing the marriage was well and truly over, Ethan divorced Maya and they parted amicably. Edward’s death left Maya with some ELQ shares, so who knows if she might show again up to take advantage of them?
