Réal Andrews Updates Fans On His GENERAL HOSPITAL Status
In the wake of Spencer’s disappearance, GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Trina has been leaning on her parents, Portia and Curtis, for support as she mourns the apparent death of the love of her life. And while there was a touching scene on Feb. 19 between the young woman and Curtis — whom she only learned was her biological father a year ago — in which he urged her to open up about her feelings, many of the soap’s viewers were left wondering why Marcus Taggert (who raised Trina from infancy and was believed to be her parent until Portia’s lie was exposed) has been MIA during this difficult period in his daughter’s life.
As it turns out, Taggert’s absence from the canvas is not because the lawman’s portrayer, Réal Andrews, is otherwise engaged. In a post shared on Twitter and Instagram, the actor reached out to those loyal fans who have been questioning his whereabouts and wondering when Taggert might be coming back to GH, speaking to them directly in a video message.
“I appreciate your support,” Andrews told his followers, adding that they may hold the key to Taggert returning to the canvas. “At this point, it’s really up to you guys and God.”
After noting that “if God wants me back, I’ll be back,” the actor encouraged his fans to let The Powers That Be at the soap know that he’s missed in the current storyline. “You guys have a very loud voice, especially in today’s day and age,” he told his followers. “So between God and you all making a bunch of noise, if it’s meant to be, I’ll be back.”
Andrews, who has played the role on and off since 1996, last aired in July, when Taggert and Trina both admitted that their relationship had been struggling ever since she received the DNA results naming Curtis as her biological father. Ending their chat, Trina called Taggert “Dad” and expressed her love before heading off to check on Curtis, who was in a coma after being shot. Despondent, Curtis spiked his hospital coffee with some booze, throwing a pity party for one.
As Trina continues to navigate her new reality — without Spencer and as the daughter of Curtis Ashford, not Marcus Taggert — Andrews is hopeful that Port Charles hasn’t seen the last of his character. “If I’m back, I’ll bring it,” the actor vowed, concluding his video message. “You know that’s what I do.”
