When Steve Burton said goodbye to Port Chuck, a great many fans got confused and thought the popular actor was actually leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL! And during a recent Facebook Live with his pal Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), he explained the Instagram post that had fans concerned and revealed the truth. “It’s a great picture in my Port Chuck hoodie,” Burton said. “Port Chuck was one of the greatest times of my life and I thanked Bradford, Scott [Reeves, ex-Steve], and Brandon [Barash, ex-Johnny].
“And then people misconstrued that I was leaving the show because I wanted to thank Port Chuck for some of the best times of my life,” he added. “So Port Chuck and Port Charles, not the same thing, technically. Port Chuck’s the band and Port Charles is the city in which I’m staying for a long time, I hope. So there you go. That might have been the confusion.”
Anderson also revealed that their band’s name started because Anthony Geary (ex-Luke) nicknamed Port Charles “Port Chuck.” “So Steve is not leaving,” he announced. “So that’s good news for everybody.”
Burton joined the cast of GH as Jason Quartermaine (now Morgan) back in 1991 and won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1998 for his work. He left the soap in 2012 and the following year joined the cast of CBS sudser THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS as Dylan McAvoy, where he won another Daytime Emmy for his performance on that soap in 2017. By the end of 2016, Burton announced he would be leaving Y&R and soon returned to GH to reclaim his role of Jason (which had been taken over by Billy Miller who was later revealed to be Jason’s previously-unknown twin, Drew Cain).
So fans can relax knowing that Burton isn’t planning on going anywhere for quite some time and they can continue to enjoy watching Jason’s adventures in Port Charles! Stay tuned to see what happens next!
