Watch GH’s Sydney Mikayla Learn She Got a Daytime Emmy Nomination!
Congratulations to GENERAL HOSPITAL star Sydney Mikayla (Trina) on her Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Younger Performer category! Although the nominations were announced via Twitter, she had her mother, actress Sonya Leslie, read out her category for full effect, and videotaped the results!
As she began reading, Mikayla sat in a chair and crossed all the fingers on both her hands as she listened to the names. After a quick joke where Mom teased she had to go get her reading glasses, they quickly burst into applause at the first name, which was her GH co-star Tajh Bellow (TJ). Mikayla was pleased by the next couple of names, and then applauded again for her other nominated co-star, Katelyn MacMullen (Willow). Mom paused for dramatic effect, and then read the name of her daughter, whose face fell open in shock and joy as she exclaimed: “That’s so crazy! I didn’t think you were gonna call my name! That’s so crazy!” And Mom couldn’t resist teasing her by quietly joking that she was just kidding before shouting “No, I’m not!” and they both exploded into cheers again!
Mikayla shared the video with her fans and friends on Instagram to commemorate the iconic moment. “And just like that, I’m Emmy nominated!” she exclaimed. “I can’t believe this! Special thanks to GH for letting me do what I love! Congrats to my co-stars Tajh and Katey! We did it!” In the comments, Bellow laughed at Mom’s prank. “Ha ha ha, she got you!” he wrote. “Congrats!”
Mikayla joined the cast of GH in February 2019 as a recast of Trina Robinson and found herself wrapped up in plenty of dramatic storylines. While no details have been revealed regarding what the nominated actors actually submitted, fans will recall that 2020 saw Trina dealing with the death of her father, Taggert, and the subsequent revelation that he had only faked his demise, so Mikayla had plenty of juicy material to pick from!
Mikayla has been nominated for the Young Entertainer Award for her work on GH as well as winning a Young Artist Award for starring in The Gabby Douglas Story, but this is her first Emmy nom!
