David Hamilton on GENERAL HOSPITAL — Why Laura Killed Him
The past refuses to stay buried as Laura’s murder of David Hamilton on GENERAL HOSPITAL has resurfaced where and when she least expected it to! Now, because this storyline happened back in the late ‘70s, it’s perfectly understandable if some viewers might need a little refresher. Or they might just need to know what it was all about in the first place! Either way, we’ve got you! David Hamilton was played by actor Jerry Ayres from 1977-78, at which point he met a tragic fate.
After his wife and children were killed in a tragic accident, Professor David Hamilton was paralyzed and no one at General Hospital could figure out why he couldn’t walk anymore. His old college roommate, Rick Webber, offered to let David move into their home. Rick’s wife, Lesley Webber, didn’t trust the guy from day one, but her daughter, Laura Webber, was immediately smitten. David used this to drive a wedge between mother and daughter.
David eventually moved out into his own apartment but became obsessed with seducing Lesley as a way to get revenge on Rick, who David’s wife had always loved. When Lesley rejected his advances, David decided to use the next best thing… her daughter! Although Laura had been dating Scotty Baldwin, she quickly began having an affair with David.
Monica and Rick soon discovered that David was trying to defraud the hospital and he decided it was time to skip town. Laura wanted to go with him but David shot her down, revealing that he had only been using her to get revenge on her parents. Furious, Laura shoved David, who fell and hit his head on the fireplace. Coming across the scene and finding David dead, Lesley got Laura away from the scene of the crime and confessed to killing David herself.
Laura blocked David’s death from her memory, but when she recalled the horrible night, she ran away to New York City. Scotty and his friend, Bryan, brought her home to Port Charles where she confessed to David’s murder so the charges against her mother would be dropped. As the death was accidental, Laura was sentenced to six months probation and released into Rick and Lesley’s custody.
In November 2020, Laura was stunned to discover that villainous drug runner Cyrus Renault had a case file of David Hamilton’s murder and shared the news with Scotty as they wondered what he planned to do with it. Stay tuned to GH to see how the story unfolds!
