Will Gladys Return to GENERAL HOSPITAL? — Bonnie Burroughs Speaks Out!

What was initially meant to be a brief gig for a few days on GENERAL HOSPITAL turned into a lengthy stay of a few years for Bonnie Burroughs (Gladys). But all good things must come to an end, and she said goodbye to the soap in the Oct. 5, 2023, episode. However, since Sonny simply banished Gladys from Port Charles and didn’t have her killed for what she did to Sasha, there’s every chance the bad penny could resurface one day!

“I can imagine Gladys trying to sneak back into Port Charles in a year or two,” Burroughs confided to Soap Opera Digest with a grin in a recent issue. “As Cynthia Watros (Nina) — who I adore — said to me, ‘At least you’re not getting decapitated!’ Which I just loved.

“So yeah, Gladys isn’t getting decapitated,” the actress continued, “and maybe she’ll be back one day. That’s part of the fun of soaps, right? They’re so wild and wacky that anything can happen.”

And stepping back into the schemer’s shoes again would be something Burroughs would be happy to do. “I just love Gladys,” she enthused. “I’m attracted to characters who are messy. Gladys is a liar. She’s never been a fully mature, well-functioning adult. She couldn’t get her act together and, in the end, when it got really bad, it was all about the self-preservation — at the expense of Sasha’s well-being.

“I do think that my own kind of good-girl Girl Scout way of living for most of my life kind of primed me to wish to play a character like Gladys and to be able to pull it off,” Burroughs added. “And I believe I did!”
