Bonnie Burroughs Says Goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL

At long last, fans got what they were waiting for — Gladys was finally exposed and forced to pay for her crimes. Unfortunately, this also means that her very talented portrayer, Bonnie Burroughs, has left GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Stealing Sasha’s money to pay off her gambling debts was bad, but when Gladys teamed with Dr. Montague to put her in Ferncliff, redemption was looking more and more unlikely. And Burroughs could see the writing on the wall for her scheming alter ego.

So she wasn’t entirely surprised when GH’s executive producer Frank Valentini informed her that her final episode was nigh. “I’m glad I did get that heads-up,” Burroughs admitted in the new issue of Soap Opera Digest, ‘because if I hadn’t, when I got the script for the last episode, it would have hit me harder.”

The character of Gladys Corbin was introduced in July 2019 and was played by actress Mel Harris for that initial appearance. But when the character returned to the canvas in September of that year, Burroughs had taken over the role and continued to make recurring appearances over the years right up until the Oct. 5, 2023, episode.

Gladys should count herself lucky that she was simply driven out of town instead of being thrown in prison for her crimes… or worse! Although Sonny did warn her that she needed to keep her nose clean back in Bridgeport or he’d make sure she takes another, more permanent trip. So who knows if Gladys will listen or if she might try coming back to Port Charles at some point in the future? Maybe to prove she’s changed her ways? In soaps, anything is possible!
