DAYS OF OUR LIVES Releases Entire Cast From Contracts Before Going on Hiatus

The big changes at DAYS OF OUR LIVES aren’t just on-screen with the unprecedented “flash forward” time jump marking the soap’s 54th anniversary — our friends over at TV Line are reporting that the producers have released the entire cast of DAYS from their contracts and plan to go on indefinite hiatus at the end of the month! However, Chandler Massey (Will) assured fans there was no reason to panic. “We’re not being cancelled,” he tweeted. “We are pausing production because we are so far ahead of schedule (and it saves us $). DAYS will still air during the entire hiatus, so you won’t miss anything!

While most soaps tape episodes about a month ahead of air date, DAYS has been shooting with an eight-month lead time, which means that even after the soap suspends production at the end of November, they will have enough shows to air until summer of 2020. If NBC chooses to renew DAYS for another season, they will resume production in March, so viewers won’t even notice any interruptions on-screen.

However, while an insider insists that it appears NBC would like to keep DAYS running, releasing the actors from their contracts allows them to renegotiate new contracts if the show gets picked up again. This would allow them to cut costs by lowering salaries, but that could also mean some stars might choose not to re-sign at those rates.

While this may sound scary, fans shouldn’t give up — especially because if they stop watching and ratings plummet then NBC probably wouldn’t choose to renew the soap.
