Ashley Jones Says Goodbye to Her Grandmother Vonda

“Yesterday was a beautiful celebration of a life well-lived,” Jones shared on Instagram with a video montage of photos and clips set to CeCe Winans’ “Goodness of God.” “My grandmother, Vonda, would have been so proud to see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gather to honor her.”

The actress then shared just a small glimpse into what made her grandma so very special. “My grandmother, born in 1929, was a novelist and poet, as well as a vivacious, ambitious entrepreneur in a time and place where women were not rising to the top of the business world easily,” Jones declared. “I treasure all the handwritten letters Nanny sent me, grateful I have them. She had many accomplishments, but her greatest was her service to the Lord. While she was extremely proud of her successful businesses, she was more proud of her family. She was a mother to nine children, grandmother to 27 grandkids, 42 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.”

Knowing how much she was writing about this woman she held so dearly to her heart, Jones shared an additional message to her fans. “If you’re still reading at this point,” she wrote, “one of the things I hope you take away from this post is this: really talk to those you love. Let them know how proud you are of them in the living years. Although I knew my grandmother well and loved her deeply, I learned things about her I never knew until yesterday.

“One thing I did know for sure,” she concluded, “until her last breath, she sang of the goodness of God. A special thank you to those of you that worked tirelessly to make Nanny’s celebration perfect. I love you.”
