Daytime Actress and Writer Meg Bennet Dead at 75
Sad news to report for soap fans. Actress and writer Meg Bennett has died at the age of 75. Her family reported that she lost her battle with cancer and passed away on April 11.
Bennet got her start in show business back in 1971 when she was hired as the Cadillac Eldorado convertible girl” for a New York auto show and after a role in the off-Broadway musical Godspell, became one of the original cast members of Grease on Broadway. This led to her being cast as the young heroine Liza Walton on SEARCH FOR TOMORROW in 1975. From there, she went on to appear as Julia Newman on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS from 1980 through 1986.
It was during her time on Y&R that she also began working as a scriptwriter and after penning scripts for that soap, went on to write for THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, GENERAL HOSPITAL, SANTA BARBARA, and SUNSET BEACH. During her career, she received five Daytime Emmy Award nominations for writing, taking home the trophy in 1995 with the GH team.
Bennett continued to act, appearing on stage and screen, even returning to soaps to play the villainess Allegra Montenegro on GH in 2005 and most recently, a guest appearance on Y&R in 2020 when the soap celebrated Eric Braeden’s 40th anniversary as Victor Newman.
It was during her time on Y&R that Bennett met her husband, Robert Guza Jr., and they enjoyed 19 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband, two stepdaughters, and four grandchildren as well as a brother and sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our thoughts are with her entire family during this difficult time.
