Social media has provided a great opportunity for soap stars to interact with their fans, but sometimes people on the internet can be particularly awful and that has led Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) to stop posting on Instagram. “I am going to be posting this and then I will be disappearing for a while,” she shared along with a photo and quote from the late Robin Williams. “I’ll tell you why, in a nutshell.
“I post something I get attacked for wearing a mask,” Stafford continued. “I get attacked for not wearing it or wearing it wrong or whatever. I don’t post enough and get attacked. I don’t use the right hashtag and get attacked. I don’t respond to someone in a timely manner, I get attacked. Hell, I’ll probably get attacked for this post. Frankly, Instagram isn’t really so much fun anymore.”
However, Stafford allowed that it’s not all negativity. She’s earned plenty of fans from Y&R and also her run as Nina on GENERAL HOSPITAL, and declared that many of them are wonderful. “The majority of you lovely folks have been filled with beauty during this incredibly challenging time and I love you,” she added. “It’s been challenging for every single one of us. I have been met with some new challenges in the last couple days and… you know, family first.
“I am just a bit vulnerable at the moment and don’t really understand attacks of any kind to somebody one doesn’t know,” Stafford concluded. “I will still be doing my Skin Nation Sunday every Sunday as it is a very positive group. If you are positive, come by. But in the words of Robin, be kind always. I love all of you good people. Stay healthy and watch Y&R — we’re back!”
Hopefully, Stafford’s break from Instagram will be brief and she’ll be back interacting with fans again before we know it. And hopefully, those negative fans will learn to control their impulses and stop attacking people they’re supposed to be fans of.
