Peter Bergman Compares Working on AMC and Y&R (EXCLUSIVE)

Soaps that filmed in New York City back in the day were a bit different than those shot on the West Coast, as Peter Bergman (Jack) found out when he relocated to Los Angeles in 1989 after playing ALL MY CHILDREN’s Cliff for nine years. “In New York, I shared a dressing room, about half the size of the one I have now, with two other men,” the Emmy winner recalled to Soaps In Depth. “In Manhattan, space is a rare commodity. When I joined THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and got my own dressing room, I thought, ‘Wow, there’s a little more space out here. This is kind of nice!”

Still, Bergman says there’s an upside to literally rubbing shoulders with one’s colleagues. “On the East Coast, no one hung out in their dressing rooms. We were all in the green room, hanging out with each other,” he explained. “I was on [Y&R] for two months before I met Doug Davidson (Paul), and he was in a major storyline! We worked on the same show, but I never saw him because everybody’s always off in their dressing rooms. If they weren’t in your storyline, you didn’t see them, and that was brand new for me. That threw me a lot!”
