GENERAL HOSPITAL Stars Mourn Their Dear Friend Nneka Garland

What can I say about Nneka that hasn’t been said. With a heavy heart, I will say this one hurts a lot. The saying, "Only the good die young,” Nneka my love you were at the top. 🎁

This photo is from pandemic days, I couldn’t find another. Our beloved Nneka Garland. We are predominantly a family at GH. We work, play, and spend downtime with each other. We lost a big part of our family this week. Nneka’s smile lit up a room, her spirit & kindness traversed every aspect of her life and work. At GH it seemed Nneka looked after us all. Visiting her in her office you’d be met with a chuckle and a ‘We’ll make it work,' and she always did. But more than that, she met you with patience and kindness, because I think she really loved what she did. We certainly loved her. I feel a bit lost right now. Nneka, we are all going to miss you so so much 🕊️ 🕊️ ❤️

Nneka Garland was truly the heart and soul of GH. She was the glue that held it all together. The show will feel her absence in a big way as will everyone who loved her. She was always a kind and calming presence. It's hard to imagine going forward without her. 💔

Collective GH heart is broken. Hyperbole is common when a loved one passes, but there is no way to overstate what Nneka Garland meant to us, all she did, or the sadness her passing brings.. she was the Loving mother who kept our family together, we will never be the same. ♥︎

I miss you. Thank you for being my friend and always being the calm in the storm. ❤️

The sorrow crept up. Lisa told me the news and I was really taken off guard, it took some time to really sink in. I tried to think about the last time we spoke. A few months ago you sent me a sweet book and a beautiful brown doll for Coda that still sits in her room.

You were kind, thoughtful, smart, present. You were my friend. I remember the way you made me feel on set, appreciated and seen. You’d always go out of your way to tell me when my work moved you. You rooted for me, always, since day one. You had my back.

My heart breaks I didn’t get to say goodbye one more time. We hugged on my last day at GH and of course I never imagined it’d be the last time I’d see you in person. You were a huge part of the heartbeat of that place. You were an irreplaceable part of my experience there.

I hope wherever you are it feels like peace. I’m sorry to your beautiful family, your boyfriend, to everyone that loved you. It’s hard to imagine the fragility of everything. This week has been another brutal illumination of that reality. People we love can leave this place, will leave this place. So be present, tell them how much you love them and never take a goodbye for granted. Thanks for being kind to me and to everyone.

I’ll think of you every time Coda drops that doll in my lap.

22 years. Nneka Garland became a second parent to me on the GH set. Irreplaceable in every way. To know and grow with you over the years was an honor. Not a day will go by where I won’t miss walking into your office. I love you now and always. What a gift you were…safe travels. ❤️

Incredibly grateful for the care that GHl has taken in memorializing Sonya [Eddy, Epiphany]. Tragically we've just lost our most treasured producer yesterday who's deserving of a tribute I can't yet meet while mourning her unexpected loss. I'll need a moment for Nneka Garland. A long one.

I heard the news this morning and was in shock. My friend who told me saw my shock, grabbed me, gave me a hug and I immediately started to sob. N'neka, I cannot comprehend that you are gone. I met you when I was 29 years old. You stayed the same lovely person you were all those years ago. No matter what kind of stress went on around you at work you somehow always had an amazing ability to keep things together. You juggled a lot of responsibilities (more than you should have had) and a lot of strong personalities and you always kept a level head when most would have lost it. You never did. Your kindness, your warmth, your love, our conversations about real things… I will remember. I cannot believe you are gone. You were so beautiful. This world has lost a beautiful bright light. You will be missed by so many. I cannot believe this. Love and condolences to your family and your boyfriend. Love you, Ms. N’neka.

A crushing blow. Nneka was at the absolute center of the team. Unshakeable and easily the kindest person in any room. Can’t begin to process this news.

Wow. I still haven’t fully processed losing the incredible Nneka Garland, but she was so supportive in my decision to focus on my studies and part ways with my wonderfu GH fam.

She really was a second mom to everyone on set, and really went above and beyond anything that was asked of her.

She was always reaching out, even after I left the show, wishing me well on school and all my future endeavors.

Like everyone, I get so lost in myself that I forget to take time for others, reach out to others, congratulate the ones I love, and take a little extra time to care for the people that I love. If Nneka has left me, left us, with anything, it’s to always go the extra mile. The little acts of kindness that we perform every day are the moments that create our legacy. May you rest well 🕊️

Nneka Garland you were a shining star - your smile lit up the room and your laughter brought so much joy- you had the gift of making everyone feel like they were your favorite. I feel so so lucky to have known you. I will miss sitting on your couch, telling stories - calling you weekly trying to get my schedule early and seeing your name pop up on my phone because I always knew we were gonna have a fun conversation and giggle. You truly cared about everyone. You asked about everyone - I’ve never met a person with a bigger heart and a smile to match. My heart is really really sad tonight. And those who knew Nneka - they understand. 💔
