Melissa Ordway Celebrates Daughter Olivia’s “Coronation Day”

In the Gaston household, February 27 is a very special day: On that date in 2017, Melissa Ordway (Abby, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) and her husband, Michael Gaston (ex-Chance), legally adopted their beautiful daughter, Olivia Christine!

Each year, the Gastons mark Olivia’s “gotcha day” with a big celebration, like the princess-themed party they had in 2021. “Coronation Day is what we call our adoption ‘gotcha day,’” the Y&R star explained on Instagram, sharing a video from the moment the judge finalized the adoption paperwork. “It’s a huge celebration in our family. And no one likes a party as much as Olivia. It’s the day the judge and [the] state of California made our family official. Even though it had always been official to us.”

To celebrate this year, Ordway took Olivia and her younger sister, Sophie, to the American Girl Place Nashville in Franklin, Tennessee (the area where the family now lives), where they enjoyed a day of shopping and an adorable tea party at the retail outlet’s restaurant!

    For their trip to American Girl Place, Sophie and Olivia twinned with their American Girl dolls, rocking bright, colorful doll-and-me dresses.

    The restaurant provides doll-sized chairs that slide onto the tables, so Olivia and Sophie’s dolls could join in the fun!

    Olivia sipped on a yummy milkshake while her doll had a spot of tea. “Such a fun afternoon with American Girl celebrating Olivia’s ‘Coronation.’”

    “A tea party fit for a queen,” enthused Ordway, here with Sophie and Olivia during their girls’ day at the café at American Girl Place. “Queen Olivia.”

    “I had dreamed about you. I had heard God whisper to me about you. I prayed for you. And the moment I laid eyes on you, I was forever changed. You brightened our world, Olivia. And I couldn’t be more grateful to be your mom,” Ordway wrote to her daughter in a post commemorating Olivia’s adoption.

    Ordway’s mom, Christine — Olivia’s namesake — and other friends joined in on the day of fun.

    “In all the world, you were chosen to be ours,” Ordway wrote in her gotcha day post. “I love you more than you’ll ever know.”
