Emily O’Brien Opens up About Taking Over as Theresa on DAYS

Viewers have been watching Emily O’Brien play Gwen Rizczech on DAYS OF OUR LIVES since June 2020, so it was a little startling for them to tune in to the Oct. 6 episode of the soap to see the actress exit Salem as Gwen and then immediately reenter the scene wearing a blonde wig and playing Theresa Donovan!

“Don’t worry, I am sure Gwen is still smirking somewhere,” O’Brien shared on Instagram. “I want to take a small respite from the current events of the world to show my utmost gratitude for the opportunity to have portrayed such a beautifully layered character for the past four years.

“She has taken me through such a delicious discovery of who she is and what she ultimately always yearned for — despite all her pain, vengeance, and deceit,” she continued. “To be loved. Perhaps someday, somewhere away from Salem, she can finally find it.”

But while Gwen has left Salem behind, O’Brien remains on the Peacock soap… in the role of Theresa! Which has been a bit of an adjustment for both the actress and the fans.

“Now as for me, a new page turns from a different story,” O’Brien declared. “One that I am excited to explore. So as I step into the shoes (and wig) of a very different role, I hope that you can keep an open mind, have fun with my interpretation, and enjoy the ride. After all, it’s just a bit of dress-up and make-believe, really.”

Naturally, the comments on the actress’ Instagram post quickly began filling up with support and praise from fans and friends, including some of her DAYS co-stars like Greg Rikaart (Leo) and Stacy Haiduk (Kristen/Susan). Even Theresa’s former portrayer, Jen Lilley, exclaimed (in all caps!): “You’re doing a wonderful job 🙌🙌🙌”

So keep watching as O’Brien continues telling Theresa’s story!
