Bad news for “WilSon” fans — Freddie Smith (Sonny) and Chandler Massey (Will) are leaving DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Smith announced the sad news in a video podcast he shared to social media where he explained the situation. “Chandler and I were released from our contracts,” he reported. “So we will not be filming any more episodes after this week. Well, depending on schedule, in the next couple weeks.”

DAYS released the entire cast from their contracts when they took their extended hiatus over the holidays, and Smith admitted that he knew he and Massey were coming back for six episodes and wasn’t too concerned as he found out other actors were also scheduled for six episodes. “But as the scripts started coming in,” he continued, “we started talking more and I’m like, ‘This doesn’t look good. This doesn’t look like we’re going to be signed to a contract.’ But I’m like, ‘There’s no way we’re gonna be let go.'”

While he couldn’t give away any storyline spoilers regarding Will and Sonny’s exit, Smith did reveal that their last air date is scheduled for the Friday, Sept. 18 episode. “It was not our choice,” he also declared. “Chandler and I were looking forward to staying on and signing a contract and keeping the storyline going.”

Massey addressed his exit in his own Twitter, confessing, “Wish it weren’t coming to an end, but I will be forever grateful to everyone who went on this journey with us.”

Massey joined the cast of DAYS in 2010, and Smith joined in 2011, launching the supercouple of “WilSon” as Will and Sonny’s relationship broke new ground for daytime television, earning a lot of loyal fans. “We’re gonna go down in history,” Smith said. “We are just a power couple that’s always gonna be part of that show.”

Regarding a possible return for the actors and their characters at some point in the future, he admitted: “Is the door closed forever? I don’t think so.” For more details, you can watch Smith’s podcast right here.
