When Days of Our Lives cast Kennedy Garcia as Felicity, the soap made daytime history as the actress became the first actress with Down syndrome to be featured in a storyline on an American soap. She was already familiar with the genre, as she and her mom are big fans of The Young & The Restless.

“I got the audition for Felicity last year and I was so excited!” Garcia confessed to TV Insider. “I have wanted to be on a soap opera for a long time, so for a role to come up for a teenager with Down syndrome was just amazing!”

Although Garcia has been a working actress since she was little, stepping onto the DAYS set for the first time was naturally a big moment. “I was so nervous on my first day,” she admitted. “I was worried I would mess up or forget my lines, but everyone was so nice! They even let me choose my own wardrobe! I’m not nervous anymore!

“My first day on set, Raven Bowens, who plays Chanel, really helped me out and showed me around,” the actress revealed. “She’s been amazing! And even before that, my friend, Courtney Hope, who works on Young and The Restless [as Sally], prepared me for my audition and really cheered me on.”

As Felicity becomes a part of Johnny and Chanel’s storyline on DAYS, Garcia is excited for fans to meet her character and get to know her. “It’s really such a special thing,” she declared. “I am so proud of Days of Our Lives for taking this step and taking a chance on me. Inclusion in this industry is so important and I am proud to help move it forward.”
