Marla Gibbs Cast on DAYS OF OUR LIVES!
Another very familiar face is coming to Salem as Marla Gibbs has been cast on DAYS OF OUR LIVES as Olivia Price! “Get excited,” tweeted the soap’s headwriter, Ron Carlivati. She is currently scheduled to first appear in the episode airing on Tuesday, Aug. 17.
Yes, that last name means that Gibbs will be playing the mother of Paulina Price, played by Jackée Harry, so this DAYS appearance will reunite the pair of 227 stars! Gibbs starred on the classic NBC sitcom as Mary Jenkins, and Harry played her neighbor, Sandra Clark. Although the two actresses shared the screen as recently as 2019 when they both appeared in LIVE IN FRONT OF A STUDIO AUDIENCE: NORMAL LEAR’S ALL IN THE FAMILY AND THE JEFFERSONS.
Gibbs is also famous for starring as Florence Johnston, the acid-tongued maid on the iconic THE JEFFERSONS, earning five Emmy Award nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. She has also appeared in series like THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR, TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, ER, and THE HUGHLEYS. On the big screen, Gibbs could be seen in films such as The Meteor Man, Lost & Found, The Visit, and Madea’s Witness Protection.
In July 2021, Gibbs was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her incredible career in show business. However, DAYS will not be her daytime debut. Nope, back in 2004, the actress played Aunt Irma in a handful of episodes of NBC sudser PASSIONS!
So make sure you stay tuned to DAYS in August to watch the 227 neighbors playing mother and daughter! Knowing what a firecracker Paulina is, it’s likely she’s a chip off the old block, so this should be fun!
