When DAYS OF OUR LIVES came calling to see if she’d be interested in returning as Ava, it was not a difficult decision for Tamara Braun to make. She was more than happy to reprise the role she’s been playing on and off since 2008.
“I’m back,” she declared to Soap Opera Digest. “I absolutely love Ava. She’s had different incarnations. Some I’ve enjoyed better than others, but what’s beautiful about her is that she has so many layers to her and there’s a lot of history there. It’s always fun to see what avenue whoever’s writing at the time is going to take with her. I was interested to see where she was going to go this time.”
Ava Vitali hasn’t been seen since December 2022 when she was shipped off to Bayview after causing the death of Susan Banks and blowing up the church where her funeral was being held. And when she returned to the canvas in the Aug. 8 episode, Ava was still in Bayview and clearly not doing very well as she called Harris by the name of her late son, Charlie, and attacked him!
“Ava was sent there because she had another breakdown and was having hallucinations,” Braun explained. “So she’s dealing with that and getting treatment. Let’s leave it at that, because I don’t want to give too much away.”
The actress’ first scenes back reunited her with former GENERAL HOSPITAL co-star Steve Burton (Harris, DAYS), who played Jason to her Carly back in the day. “Steve and I have always had a good working relationship,” Braun enthused. “We seem to have a good chemistry and flow, so it was an easy thing to jump into.”
Braun remains tight-lipped on what’s coming up for Ava, but she’s genuinely excited to be playing this role again. “She’s an incredible character and there are a lot of places that you can go with her,” she declared. “And the fans seem to love her — love to hate her and hate to love her. It’s nice to know that they’re happy when Ava’s back on the canvas. I appreciate it so much.”
So stay tuned to see what twists and turns lay ahead!
