The Pawn on DAYS OF OUR LIVES — Everything You Need To Know
Who is The Pawn on DAYS OF OUR LIVES? Well, the short answer is John Black. Of course, being DAYS, things are slightly more complicated than that. Saying that John has had an identity crisis over the years is putting it mildly! So now that the name has been brought up again on the soap, let’s take a look back at a brief history of The Pawn.
Back in 1985, a mysterious character known only as “The Pawn” was brought to Salem with his face covered in bandages after having facial reconstruction surgery. Originally held captive by Victor Kiriakis, Steve Johnson snatched up The Pawn to force Victor to pay handsomely for his return. That didn’t work out so well when The Pawn gave Steve the slip!
When The Pawn had his bandages removed, he had a handsome face, but absolutely no memories of his past. So he began to establish a new life by calling himself John Black after seeing the name on a war memorial. While working at the hospital, John grew closer to Dr. Marlena Evans and she attempted to help him recover his memories with hypnosis. Unfortunately, the sight of a phoenix tattoo led Marlena to fear he could be working with Stefano DiMera… or even be the villain in disguise!
But things got even crazier when Marlena found photos of John’s surgery that revealed he was her presumed-dead husband Roman Brady with a new face! They believed that Stefano had abducted Roman and brainwashed him into being an assassin, changing his look to disguise his true identity. Believing himself to be Roman, John then began living his life, re-marrying Marlena and working for the Salem PD.
Another twist occurred in 1991 when Roman returned very much alive, leaving John and Marlena wondering who John actually was. With no memories of his own, The Pawn returned to his John Black identity. As time went on, he also believed himself to be Forrest Alamain, a priest, and even Ryan Brady. In 2016, John eventually learned his real name was John Robicheaux, and was reunited with his father, Timothy Robicheaux, in 2023. Of course, given the mercurial nature of John Black’s past, even that could be called into question one day.
When Konstantin Meleounis arrived in Salem in late 2023, he took one look at John and immediately recognized him as The Pawn. And it appears that Steve may know more about his friend’s past than he has ever revealed. so stay tuned to DAYS as the truth is finally revealed!
