GENERAL HOSPITAL Announces Date for John Reilly Tribute Episode
ABC has finally announced that the special episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL paying tribute to the late John Reilly and his character of Sean Donely will air on Friday, May 21. Felicia, Mac, Anna, Laura, and Kevin will mourn Sean’s death and find themselves drawn into a mystery involving his daughter, Annie, who as previously reported, will now be played by Reilly’s real-life daughter, Caitlin Reilly.
Kimberly McCullough has also teased that she would be returning to GH as Robin for this special tribute show, although she was careful not to reveal too much. The soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, is also keeping some secrets regarding the episode, though he’s very excited for everyone to be able to see it soon. “John Reilly was an incredible actor and a large part of the 58-plus-year legacy that is GH,” he told Soap Opera Digest. “This episode is meant to honor him and his contribution to the show’s rich history. With so many fan favorites returning, new and longtime viewers will enjoy it. We had a lot of fun filming and I am grateful that we were also able to include his daughter. Viewers will hopefully also enjoy one more surprise return — it is just too amazing to spoil.”
Fans have already begun speculating about who the additional return could be, with the favorites being Jack Wagner’s Frisco Jones or even better, Sean’s widow, Tiffany, played by Sharon Wyatt. Wagner was last seen in Port Charles back in 2013 as part of the soap’s 50th anniversary celebration, but the last time Wyatt played Tiffany was in a couple of episodes of GH’s primetime spinoff NIGHT SHIFT back in 2008.
Make sure you mark your calendar for Friday, May 21, and tune in to watch GH pay tribute to this beloved character and his equally-loved portrayer. We’re looking forward to plenty of tears, flashbacks, memories, and surprises!
