Marisa Ramirez Says She Would Return to GENERAL HOSPITAL

It’s been almost a decade since she’s been in Port Charles, but Marisa Ramirez admitted that she would return to GENERAL HOSPITAL to play Gia again! “I mean, California is my home,” she admitted to PopCulture. “My family is there. That’s where my heart is. And any opportunity to go back to California, I’d take. I had such an amazing time on GH. It’s such a beautiful learning experience and so many amazing people there. I mean, who knows what could happen? I’m open to anything, but I think that I might be here a little while longer, so we’ll see.”

Currently, Ramirez stars as Maria Baez on CBS primetime drama BLUE BLOODS, which is filmed on location in New York City. So with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it would be difficult for her to travel between the East and West Coasts.

The actress got her big break playing Gia Campbell on GH beginning in 2000 and portrayed the character until 2002 when the role was recast with Andrea Pearson before being written off the soap in 2003. Gia was the sister of Marcus Taggert who became part of the younger set in Port Charles and had a tumultuous relationship with Nikolas Cassadine. She also grew close to Zander Smith, though she couldn’t compete with Emily Quartermaine and eventually left for law school.

After GH, Ramirez had a short stint on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS as Carmen Mesta, but also found success in primetime with roles on series like MIRACLES, MENTAL, SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA, AGAINST THE WALL, and BODY OF PROOF.

With Réal Andrews back on GH as Taggert, fans might love to see Ramirez reprise her role as Gia to visit her big bro (and maybe even help him out of some sticky situation by putting her law degree to work), but unfortunately, while Ramirez might be willing to return, with her current starring role on BLUE BLOODS, the time just isn’t right.
