Réal Andrews Returns to GENERAL HOSPITAL
Taggert on GENERAL HOSPITAL is going to start looking like himself again very soon! Actor Réal Andrews shared a quick Boomerang video on Instagram of a script and zoomed in and out on his character’s name. “Taggert is back!” he announced happily.
Of course, he used paper to cover up literally everything else on the page and used a mug featuring an inspirational saying to hold it down so there is literally no other information available such as when Andrews’ first episode will be airing.
The character of Marcus Taggert first appeared back in December 1996 with Andrews in the role. From 1997-98, Matthew St. Patrick stepped into the cop’s shoes for a bit before Andrews returned and remained with the soap until 2003. Taggert returned to GH in January 2020, and while believed dead in March, was revealed in August to be very much alive. More recently, actor Asante Jones has filled in for Andrews for sporadic appearances beginning in December 2020. His most recent was in the Feb. 11 episode when Taggert and Portia had dinner with their daughter, Portia.
Neither GH nor Andrews has addressed the frequent temporary recasting of Taggart. In February 2021, Andrews did reveal on social media that he had tested positive for COVID. While it was soon found to be a false positive, due to the COVID regulations, he was unable to return to work at the soap immediately.
GH has seen some other sudden recasts lately, with Lindsay Hartley stepping in as Sam again for a few episodes, Leo being played by another young actor for one show, and even Marshall getting a new look for a bit. Thankfully, these recasts have been temporary and the original actors have returned to the role. Now we just have to wait a little bit until we can see Andrews back as Taggert again!
