Fans were excited when Réal Andrews returned to GENERAL HOSPITAL in January 2020 as Marcus Taggert and surprised when the character was unexpectedly killed off in March! But loyal viewers insisted that this couldn’t be and their prediction proved true when in August it was revealed that he had only faked his death! However, in a Crowdcast session, the actor insisted that his death had been the real deal.
“Taggert was dead,” Andrews told his fans. “I mean for real. I really believe the fans were a big part of the decision of bringing Taggert back. And I commend the producers and the writers and everybody for being open to it. I truly know in my heart it’s because of the support and the reaction. I was humbled. I was excited to come back. I didn’t have any idea of the response I was going to get when I came back. And when I was killed off, that response was beyond humbling. You guys were a massive part of bringing Taggert back.”
Andrews considers this his “third chance” in Port Charles, and is thrilled to be back on set at GH. “It’s beyond nice,” he enthused. “I’m happy as a pig in you-know-what when I’m on the set. I really love it. I’m extremely grateful. Unfortunately, there’s like 68% of the population that don’t like their job, which is sad, but I actually love my job. It’s an amazing thing to be able to have a job that you love and people that you love working with and people who love their job. It’s a great place to be in.”
Those who weren’t in on faking Taggert’s death will be thrilled to find out it isn’t true, though they’re definitely going to be a little upset that he put them through all that heartbreak. Of course, on top of that, there’s still the villainous Cyrus Renault yet to take down, which could be hard to do from beyond the grave. “I take the fifth,” Andrews teased when asked where the storyline was headed. “All I can tell you is hold onto your seats. We have some beyond amazing storyline coming!”
