Robin Mattson Reveals Why She Didn’t Return to GH!
The return of Heather Webber to GENERAL HOSPITAL in late October was a surprise to the audience since the soap had managed to keep the casting of Alley Mills (Pam, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) as the iconic villain a secret. While that jaw-dropping Friday cliffhanger was definitely a surprise, it was also a disappointment to some viewers who were shocked that the nutty character’s last portrayer, Robin Mattson, had been recast. But on November 11, the actress reached out to her followers on social media with an update on her life — which included an excellent explanation as to why she was unable to reprise her GH role!
In a post shared to both her official Facebook and Instagram pages, Mattson shared a photo of her sitting at her patio table. Spread out before the actress were lovely red roses from her garden, which Mattson was presumably about to place in the vase on the table since flower arranging is a newfound hobby of hers! “As nice as is to be missed, and so many of you have wondered what happened to me, I just want to let you know that I’ve been recovering from my knee surgery,” the actress wrote, referring to the operation she had over the summer. “Today, I’m going to have hip replacement surgery.”
The third actress to play the role of Heather, Mattson joined the GH cast back in 1980. She was a big part of the Port Charles canvas for many years before exiting to play the roles of SANTA BARBARA’s Gina Capwell and ALL MY CHILDREN’s Janet “From Another Planet” Dillon. After her other soap stints, Mattson returned again to GH, playing Heather on and off until 2016. During Mattson’s last run on the soap in 2012, Heather ended up stabbing her son, Stephen Lars, while trying to kill Olivia, confessed to Franco that she is his biological mother, tried to kill Carly, snuck out of Ferncliff more than once, and revealed that Jeff Webber was Hayden Barnes’ biological father! After that, it’s no wonder she was locked up in D’Archam Asylum!
Despite not having been on the soap for a decade, Mattson was touched by the messages she’d received from fans after Mills debuted in the role of Heather. “Thank you all for your love and support!” Mattson concluded her post. “Looking forward to a fast recovery!”
As for Mills, it seems that the B&B vet may have wrapped up her stint after Cameron alerted Dante that Heather was at Kelly’s Restaurant — enjoying one of her beloved BLT sandwiches — and the detective arrived to escort the fugitive back to D’Archam. Although with Heather Webber, you never can tell what might happen next!
