The networks have been airing holiday movies since October, but they’re still coming! And the latest features a very familiar face to fans of much-missed soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Brittany Underwood (Langston) is starring in A Royal Christmas Holiday, which premieres on Great American Family on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 8 p.m. ET!
The romantic tale centers around Underwood’s character of Katie, who is a journalist looking for her shot, which comes when she is assigned to interview a visiting prince played by Jonathan Stoddard. “Right now, she’s like, second-tier reporter,” the actress previewed to Soaps In Depth. “And Carol Jordan, who is the main anchor at the station, is going on vacation. This opportunity arises where she’s looking for something bigger and her editor (played by Billy Baldwin) is like, ‘Well, with Carol going out of town, we just got this request to interview the prince of Visaria who’s coming to town.’”
Of course, things get complicated once Katie meets the prince at the airport. “You know, the prince is really cute,” Underwood chuckles. “She’s like, ‘Oh hey, prince, this is a little distracting because you’re very gorgeous.’ But she’s determined to get the interview and things happen along the way that are obstacles so she can’t do the interview right away. But if she can land this interview, she gets her promotion.” (And if this movie turns out like we know it will, she’ll also get the prince!)
Underwood had some natural chemistry with co-star Stoddard as the pair have worked together before. “I directed Jonathan in two movies and then I starred in two movies with Jonathan,” Underwood revealed. “So this was our fourth film together. Jonathan’s great. He’s such a pro. It’s great working with him.”
The OLTL alum was also excited to film another movie in Buffalo, which is quickly becoming her favorite place to shoot projects. “It is the cutest small town but it’s a city and the vibe is great,” she enthused. “It’s just a really, really nice vibe. I would shoot movies there for the rest of my life.”
A Royal Christmas Holiday was also shot back in January 2023, meaning that no special effects were necessary to create the season on screen. “There’s so much snow on the ground,” she smiled, “so it should feel very wintry and Christmassy.”
Underwood has been acting in and directing a lot of these television movies in recent years, but this one was particularly special because she knew and had worked with nearly everyone in the cast and crew on other projects. “It was like a little reunion where everybody knows everybody and got to make a movie,” she said. “That’s always the best. It’s the ultimate dream to be able to do what you love with the people you love. And I’ve been fortunate that I usually get to do that with at least a few people on every set that I’ve been on for the past few years, but to have so many familiar faces on one project was one of the most special experiences I’ve had doing these movies.”
