Robin Strasser Reveals She’s Suffering from Long COVID

Tags:

Nearly three years into the global COVID pandemic, the contagious illness is still an ongoing concern. In a recent Twitter conversation with some of her followers, former ONE LIFE TO LIVE star Robin Strasser (Dorian) revealed that not only did she catch coronavirus a month ago, but she’s dealing with the long-term effects of the infection.

The conversation started after one of Strasser’s followers wrote that she missed OLTL and hoped that Strasser was doing well. “I miss OLTL and will to my dying day. I’m not well after catching breakthrough COVID four weeks ago,” confessed the actress, who has been an outspoken supporter of the coronavirus vaccine and boosters. “Apparently, now I’ve got Long COVID, which means recuperation is going to take a long time. I’ll try my best but frankly, I’m really bummed out. Thank you for asking, Debbie.”

Breakthrough COVID occurs when a vaccinated individual tests positive for the coronavirus. Since no vaccine can provide complete protection against the virus, it is possible for vaccinated people to still become infected. Typically, the coronavirus infection lasts about two weeks, but some people will suffer from lingering symptoms for weeks and months, a condition that medical experts have termed Long COVID. “Sadly, my energy ebbs and flows,” Strasser revealed in another tweet, “disturbingly leading me back to bed.”

There is a wide range of post-COVID symptoms, like a lingering cough, difficulty breathing, and various conditions that can affect the lungs, heart, and brain. In addition to her severe fatigue, Strasser shared that she’s been “having headaches so bad even Excedrin isn’t working. Ouch, that’s bad!”

Strasser isn’t the first daytime star to divulge that they are grappling with Long COVID. GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Emma Samms (Holly) has been dealing with the condition for nearly three years, ever since she contracted the virus early in the pandemic, and GH’s Chad Duell (Michael) revealed that he was hospitalized over the summer with a heart issue due to long-term COVID.

From the sounds of it, Strasser is trying to remain upbeat and positive despite her ongoing symptoms. And with Election Day coming up, Strasser has something to get out of bed for — no matter how tired she is feeling that day! “But no matter what, I’ll be up — in a nice outfit, cute hat, all my ID in my purse — and head to New York Public School 6 to vote,” she declared. “I love to vote — it’s both a privilege and an honor to be a citizen!

In addition to her role as Llanview schemer Dorian Lord, which she played from 1979 to 2013, Strasser most recently enjoyed a stint as DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Vivian Alamain back in 2019. Her other soap credits include ANOTHER WORLD’s Rachel Cory, ALL MY CHILDREN’s Dr. Christina Karras, and PASSIONS witch Hecuba.

We hope that Strasser is feeling better soon!
