Soap Star Andrea Evans Dead at 66
The daytime community has lost another icon. Soap star Andrea Evans died on July 9 at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer. Deadline is reporting that casting director Don Carroll broke the sad news.
Born in Aurora, IL, Evans appeared in beauty pageants, theater, and commercials as she grew up. After working as an extra in the Brian De Palma film, The Fury, and the miniseries The Awakening Land in 1978, the actress was cast as Tina Lord on ONE LIFE TO LIVE where she remained until 1981.
Evans then moved over to CBS to play Patty Williams on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS from 1983-84 before returning to OLTL where Tina became a fan-favorite character and the actress earned a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Ingenue. She left OLTL in 1990, later revealing that she had done so to avoid a dangerous stalker.
In 1999, Evans returned to daytime to play Amber Moore’s trashy mother, Tawny, on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL. Then, in 2000, she began playing Rebecca Hotchkiss Crane on NBC’s PASSIONS, remaining until the soap’s final episode. She then reprised the role of Tina on OLTL in 2008 for a short-term run and returned again in 2011 as the soap was ending its run on ABC so that Tina could be reunited with Cord and the supercouple could remarry and live happily ever after.
Evans also continued working in soaps as they moved to streaming, playing Vivian Price on DEVANITY and Patty and Gillian Walker on THE BAY. Her role on DEVANITY earned the actress a second Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Performer in a New Approaches Drama Series. She also executive produced the documentary Rocking the Couch, which detailed the sexual harassment case brought against talent agent Wallace Kaye.
Our thoughts are with Evans’ family and friends during this difficult time.
