Can Thomas Be Redeemed on B&B? – Matthew Atkinson Speaks Out!
The revelation that Thomas called CPS on himself to split up Ridge and Brooke on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL showed that the character had returned to his manipulative ways. But portrayer Matthew Atkinson doesn’t see his character as a pure villain.
“I think that Thomas is sort of an anti-hero,” he admitted during an episode of Bold Live with B&B supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk. “He’s a guy who still has goodness in his heart and really, really struggles. Versus the Sheila character, who is kind of the epitome of always going to be evil. I don’t know, I think I just see him as a bad-boy anti-hero. I don’t think that he’s all bad.”
Thomas helped split up Ridge and Brooke so that his father could reunite with and re-marry Taylor, but even though his scheme to bring his parents back together again has failed, this isn’t the end. In fact, after Ridge left Taylor at the altar, Atkinson believes that instead of seeking redemption, Thomas might now turn his anger towards his father.
“He made these promises that weren’t actually true,” Atkinson noted. “And that’s him hurting Thomas’ mother again. So I see every reason for Thomas to maybe… start his own fashion company. or do something that is more as an antithesis to Forrester Creations and his family so he can fight his family.
“Through that, you can have a redemption,” the actor added. “Because you can have them fight and hash out all the things that are wrong with everything that everyone did in the past. And it’s not just Thomas is a piece of crap because he did something stupid and everyone else seems to be a saint. No. Everyone else isn’t a saint and Thomas can come in and read them the riot act. And I think through that you can lead to a redemptive storyline.”
And Atkinson would love for Thomas to have a particularly unlikely ally in the future! “I want Thomas and Brooke to have a storyline together,” he revealed. “And I would rather it not be the same thing it has been which is Brooke thinks Thomas is losing it and she doesn’t want anyone around him because he’s unsafe.
“I would love something on a little bit of a deeper level like they’re working together to do something,” he continued. “Even if that’s getting him help or if it’s something related to fashion or some kind of relationship that brings them together, I would love that.”
