One of the reasons why THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Wyatt wasn’t around much earlier this year is because his portrayer, Darin Brooks, was working on several outside projects. One of them, the animated Hulu and Peacock series THE CROODS: FAMILY TREE, just dropped its third season on June 9. And later this month, Brooks’ other series — the coming-of-age family drama AMBER BROWN — will premiere!
On July 12, the excited actor shared the trailer for the heartwarming new show (which will stream July 29 on Apple TV+) on his Instagram page. Based on the collection of children’s books originally created by the late famed author Paula Danziger, the Amber Brown series follows the 4th grader as she navigates the trials and tribulations of school, her best friend moving away, her parents’ divorcing, and her mom dating again. (However, in the TV series, Amber is about to start middle school and seems to have been aged a bit.)
AMBER BROWN stars Carsyn Rose as Amber, who tries to make sense of her chaotic life through her drawings and video diary. GREY’S ANATOMY star Sarah Drew plays Amber’s mom, Sarah, and Brooks is mom’s new beau, Max… who, as you can see in the trailer below, Amber compares to “a phase” like a fancy sports car!
“Yes, I’m the ‘sports car,’” Brooks quipped on Instagram with a laughing face emoji. “Honestly, I am sooo incredibly proud to be a part of this show! It will make you laugh, it’ll make you cry, it’ll make you love… It’ll make you feel all the feels!”
The B&B actor first revealed his participation with the family drama back in September, when AMBER BROWN began production in Salt Lake City, Utah. Additional cast members include Michael Yo as dad Philip, Ashley Williams (Dani, AS THE WORLD TURNS) as Aunt Pam, and Liliana Inouye as Amber’s new bestie, Brandi. “Like I said before, I love this incredible cast, producers, crew… everyone! Especially our uber-talented creator, writer, director, and executive producer, Bonnie Hunt. And everyone in this cast is so damn good!”
The charming new series sounds like one that the whole family can watch together. “Set your reminders, calendars, tell your friends and family… grab a popcorn and pull up a chair. ’Cuz seriously, you won’t wanna miss it!” concluded Brooks before signing off with the show’s tagline. “Growing up is a work of art.”
