Katrina Bowden Is “So Proud” of Her Inspirational New Movie!

Mark your calendars for Friday, Jan. 22, because that day Katrina Bowden (Flo, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) and Sean Patrick Flanery (ex-Sam, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) can be seen in the exciting and inspirational new film, Born A Champion! “So proud of this one, and I can’t wait for you to see it,” Bowden, who plays Flanery’s wife in the movie, raved on Instagram.

Set in the world of mixed martial arts in the 1990s, Flanery stars as fighting legend Mickey Kelley, one of the first American black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In fact, the Y&R alum (himself a black belt in the martial art) even wrote the screenplay, based on his own life! Bowden co-stars as Layla, and Flanery’s own boys, Porter, 6, and Charlie, 9, play their son, Kyd! Sharing “a sweet little clip” of the movie on Instagram, B&B’s Bowden praised little Charlie’s natural talent. “This is Sean’s son, who made his acting debut in this movie, and was the best.”

Born A Champion follows Mickey, a former Marine now teaching martial arts, as he is pulled away from his wife and son to fight in an unsanctioned MMA match — and gets sucker-punched by a dirty fighter. In an instant, Mickey’s dreams for his family are shattered, and his life goes off the rails. But when bootleg videos of the fight go viral in 2001 proving that his opponent cheated, Mickey is offered the opportunity of a lifetime: a rematch. Will the aging underdog come out the victor the second time around?

The film was a labor of love for Flanery, who is thrilled to see it finally come to life. “I sat down and wrote this over 10 years ago as a love letter to BJJ and all that it’s given me,” he wrote on Instagram. “I sincerely hope you enjoy.”

Born A Champion will be playing in select theaters as of Jan. 22 and will be available to stream On Demand. Check out the trailer below!
