Matthew Atkinson Previews the “Wild Ride” Coming for Thomas on B&B (EXCLUSIVE)

When Matthew Atkinson found out that Thomas was going to start talking to a mannequin on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, he was really excited to see where the storyline was going to go. “I was like, ‘I can’t wait to see how they write this,’” he confided to Soaps In Depth. “And I think they did a great job with making this sort of a going down the depths of the mental instability of Thomas and making it a serious issue for him. Because mental health is a thing we should all be talking about, especially right now. It might spark some conversations. I think it’s really cool.”

While Thomas hearing the Hope mannequin speaking to him was an attention-grabbing plot twist shocker, the tale has taken on a much darker turn that does not bode well for the young man. “You can see that Thomas is suffering,” Atkinson noted. “This isn’t something he’s creating out of nowhere. It’s not him obsessing over Hope. it’s something that seems to be happening to him. I can’t tell you how deep it’s gonna go, but I will say that it definitely is a very serious thing that’s happening to him and… man, it’s gonna be a wild ride!”

Thomas has kept quiet about what he’s really going through, insisting to anyone who asks that he’s just stressed from work. But as the situation worsens, there’s the possibility that he could become a danger to himself or others! “He’s obviously suffering with this greatly,” Atkinson mused. “He isn’t sleeping, he can’t seem to tell the difference between reality and this weird world that he’s being surrounded with. They’re sort of getting distorted together. And that can drive a person to horrible things.”

The actor also noted that part of what Thomas is going through reflects what’s happening in the real world. “There’s a lot of people suffering right now,” Atkinson explained. “After isolation and where people are dealing with what happened during COVID and lockdown and things like that, that time on your own by yourself and being separated from other people, which Thomas has been doing — kind of to himself — is not good, psychologically. So obviously he’s suffering with that, as well and the ramifications of that can be really extreme. So is it possible that he could hurt someone or himself? Absolutely!”

Still, Atkinson remains optimistic that his B&B alter ego can get through this ordeal and come out the other side changed for the better. “I still think that Thomas is a redeemable character,” he insisted. “I hope everyone else does, too. This isn’t something that he’s creating, this is something that seems to be happening to him. So there’s either an outside force that’s creating this or there’s something within himself that he needs to fix. So it’s up to Thomas to help himself and hopefully, get around to asking for help from other people and being honest about what he’s suffering with. Because if not, it’s a long, deep rabbit hole that it would not be good for him to go down.”
