Scott Clifton Opens up About Liam and Hope’s Split on B&B
Hope and Liam’s marriage has completely fallen apart on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, and both sides are throwing blame around. But could two wrongs make a right and the couple find their way back together or is this truly the end?
Liam was worried about Thomas’ continued presence in Hope’s life, given the guy’s previous obsession with her. But despite Hope’s insistence that she felt nothing for Thomas, seeing her kiss him in Rome made Liam question everything he thought he knew about the woman he loved. “So now he can’t trust her,” Scott Clifton told Soap Opera Digest of his character’s realization. “He can’t trust Hope’s words.”
Things got even more complicated when Hope admitted that she was the one who made the move on Thomas, but tried to argue that it was because he truly loved only her while Liam would always also love Steffy.
“I think what Hope is doing here is trying to sort of retroactively justify her indiscretion with Thomas and Liam’s not buying that,” Clifton argued. “Liam has, in fact, objectively been platonic with Steffy while he’s been married to Hope this time around. He has not been pining over Steffy.
“Of course, when he saw Hope’s betrayal, that switch flipped immediately and then he started pining for Steffy,” the actor added. “And Hope would be absolutely right to worry that Liam, because of that indiscretion, will now run to Steffy, because that is what Liam does. If Liam feels hurt, he will run to Steffy. But I don’t think Hope is justified here in saying that she kissed Thomas because Steffy was such a threat to her marriage to Liam.”
Liam was further shaken when Hope agreed with him that they should get a divorce and handed over the papers that she’d already had drawn up for them to sign. “I mean, he can’t complain here,” Clifton admitted, “but he’s a little stunned. They part ways, and it’s a bittersweet moment.”
