DAYS and Y&R Star Quinn Redeker Dead at 86

The soap world has lost another talented performer. Quinn Redeker died at the age of 86 on Dec. 20, 2022. The news was reported first by Soap Opera Digest.
Daytime fans know Redeker best as villainous Alex Marshall on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, a role he played from 1979-87, as well as multiple characters on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS. Although he played Nikki’s abusive father, Nick Reed, in 1979, the actor is best remembered by Y&R fans for playing Rex Sterling (A.K.A. Brian Romalotti) from 1987-94. During his years in Genoa City, Redeker earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his work as Rex.

Outside of daytime, Redeker received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for co-writing the 1978 film The Deer Hunter. He could also be seen in films like Spider Baby, Airport, The Andromeda Strain, Ordinary People, and The Electric Horseman as well as in primetime series like MARCUS WELBY, M.D., THE BOB NEWHART SHOW, KOJAK, POLICE STORY, THE ROCKFORD FILES, THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, STARSKY AND HUTCH, and FANTASY ISLAND.
