Eric Braeden Reports He Is Cancer-Free

Tags:

On the evening of Aug. 13, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Eric Braeden (Victor) alerted his fans on social media that he was about to do a Facebook Live and had “something important” to share with them. And what that turned out to be was some very good news in his cancer battle!

“I had my last cystoscopy two days ago,” Braeden reported in his video. “That’s when they thread a camera into your bladder. And I’m cancer-free. They couldn’t find a damn thing. So I thank you for all of the good thoughts, all of your prayers. It meant a great deal to me.

“Now, this does not mean that it is all over,” he continued. “I still need to do about three prophylactic infusions. It’s called a BCG treatment. That means they infuse your bladder with some stuff that apparently kills the cancer. But as of three days ago, I’m cancer-free. So the original surgeon did a great job getting all the cancer out.”

The Y&R legend first shared his cancer diagnosis back in April, explaining that while an initial doctor’s visit showed nothing, the second urologist he saw found both low-grade and high-grade cancer cells. The BCG treatment infuses a virus into the bladder to fight the cancer cells by kickstarting the immune system. And it seems to have done the trick!

“On Saturday, I had an MRI of the kidneys and that whole lower area just to see if anything spread,” Braeden added. “So if that comes out negative, then we will do the three BCG infusions over three weeks and then I should be free for a while. And every so often, every few months or whatever, I’ll have another cystoscopy.”

As when he shared his initial diagnosis, Braeden remains a fighter and continues to be confident that he will beat this. “I’m in very good hands,” he promised. “People know what they’re doing. And I am very confident. If something’s wrong, I say, ‘Come on, man.’ I’m gonna fight the bastard, whatever it is. I love life, man. And why wouldn’t I?”

Please join us in wishing Braden all the best for continued good health!
