Y&R’s Greg Rikaart Shares Health Update From His Bedroom Quarantine

Tags:

Even as THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS and other soaps have shut down production out of concern over the spread of the COVID-19 (Corona) virus, people are still getting sick. Greg Rikaart (Kevin) revealed on social media that he’s been feeling ill and has self-quarantined himself, though he can’t be sure if he has the Coronavirus or just a really bad cold. “I’ve been mildly symptomatic since Friday/Saturday,” the actor posted to Instagram. “100.5 fever, tightness in my chest, and a wet cough complete with some green phlegm.

“Before the fever, on Wednesday of last week, my doctor said I had seasonal allergies,” Rikaart continued. “By Friday he prescribed a Z-pack, and yesterday, after zero abatement of symptoms following three days of antibiotics I tried to get in to see my doctor again, and hopefully be diagnosed with the flu but also be tested for Coronavirus.”

Unfortunately, Rikaart reported that three offices refused to see him, including his GP because he didn’t meet the CDC requirements of having traveled internationally in the past weeks, having a fever over 102, and a cough. Thankfully, his condition has been improving. “The good news is that the tightness and fever have reduced today somewhat but since my symptoms started I’ve not only been isolated from the world, but isolated from my son and my husband,” he said.

Thankfully, Rikaart found a doctor who was able to make a house call, and while he was unable to actually be tested for Coronavirus due to the lack of available testing kids in the United States, he did get some good news from the doc. “I don’t have the flu,” he updated fans. “I’m still running a fever of about 100. But she does not think I have Coronavirus, either, even though I couldn’t be tested because she didn’t have any kids because there’s no kits. Thank’s government. But my oxygen levels and my blood were good. I haven’t had any shortness of breath, thankfully. Hopefully, my fever breaks in the next day so I can go back to being a dad. But for now, I’m still holed up in my room.”

The daytime star was also grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received over social media since he’s quarantined himself away from everyone including his own family just to be on the safe side. “Thank you all again,” Rikaart concluded. “Stay well, say safe, stay inside. Love you all.”

Thankfully, the following day, it seemed like Rikaart was continuing to improve as he shared a picture of his digital thermometer reading 99.1 and said, “We’re getting there.”
