Jordi Vilasuso and His Wife, Kaitlin, Suffer a Second Devastating Miscarriage

Tags:

When daytime alum Jordi Vilasuso and his wife, Kaitlin, decided upon a topic for the 10th episode of their podcast, Making It Work, the couple thought it would be fitting to talk about their 10th wedding anniversary, which they just celebrated in late August. But in a video shared on their respective Instagram profiles, the Vilasusos revealed that a recent trial in their marriage led them to go in a different direction. “Life had a different plan,” said Kaitlin. “And instead, we’re coming at you with some sad news.”

Holding his wife’s hand, the Daytime Emmy winner sat side-by-side with his bride in the wicker egg chair outside their home that has been the seat of choice for numerous family photos and social media videos. “We… uh…” Vilasuso struggled with his words, leading a teary Kaitlin to jump in and reveal that she’d lost a second baby in as many years. “… had another miscarriage. Which sucks.”

Neither Vilasuso nor his wife held back their emotions as they explained how heartbreaking it was to lose another child instead of seeing their family grow by giving their daughters, Riley and Evie, a sibling. “It’s been a lot,” confessed the actor, who recently wrapped his run as THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Rey. “And we just want to be transparent. Be real about what we’ve been through and shed some light on the lessons we’ve learned and the struggles.”

It is estimated that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. And just as the Vilasusos opened up about their heartbreaking loss two years ago, they decided to be upfront about their experience again, hoping to help break the stigma surrounding pregnancy loss. “We’ve struggled with whether or not to share because this is just hard,” they explained in the caption that accompanied their video, “but we know that so many suffer in silence, and we want so badly for that to change.”

Having already miscarried once before, Kaitlin explained as she wiped away tears, she was somewhat prepared to handle the pain and rollercoaster of emotions that comes with losing a baby. “It’s been hard, but it’s been so much different than the miscarriage I had two years ago,” she confessed. “I don’t want to say it’s been easier because it hasn’t been. And I told Jordi, every time I say that I feel like it makes it seem like I didn’t want this baby as bad as I wanted the last one. Which is not the case. But it has been ‘easier’ because we learned so much the hard way through the last one. It’s still so hard to talk about. We know that’s why people don’t talk about it much.”

But as members of a club that no would-be parent wants to be a part of, the Vilasusos were hopeful that the lessons they’ve learned might help others in the same situation heal. “Millions of people go through it. Every year,” pointed out Vilasuso, who also played ALL MY CHILDREN’s Griffith, DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Dario, and GUIDING LIGHT’s Tony. “And we just want to provide a space for empathy and understanding and growth through this tragedy. Share our experience by being as authentic as possible, which is what we set out to do with this podcast, providing wisdom and inspiration for other couples.”

Please join us in sending love to the Vilasusos as they grieve the loss of their second angel baby.
