Fans have been looking forward to seeing Mishael Morgan in new roles after she stepped away from her role as Amanda on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, and on Dec. 7, they finally got their first peek at her playing a doctor!
Back in October, Morgan teased that she was starting a new gig, and tagging her Instagram selfie from Chicago, IL, fans immediately suspected she might be appearing on one of NBC’s trio of shows like CHICAGO PD or CHICAGO FIRE. But in the end, it turned out that she was guest-starring on CHICAGO MED! “Meet Dr. Petra Dupre,” she teased, sharing a selfie in wardrobe from her trailer on set.
In the fall finale episode titled “This Could Be the Start of Something New,” Morgan appeared as Dr. Petra Dupre, the physician working with Dayton Corporation on the creation of OR 2.0, a technologically advanced operating theater using artificial intelligence to assist the surgeon. Unfortunately, while Dr. Crockett Marcel was attempting to remove a tumor from his patient, Dr. Dupre had to step in and override the AI as it was beginning to interfere with the operation.
At the end of the hour, Dr. Marcel complained to Dr. Dupre about the AI causing problems instead of helping as it was supposed to, and she countered by insisting that he was simply too skilled of a surgeon and the AI wasn’t treating him as such. Petra promised that the AI would learn and adjust so that this wouldn’t be a problem again. But is that just wishful thinking? (And if you missed this episode or just want to see it again, it’s streaming on Peacock!)
While Morgan is listed in the credits as a guest star, since her character is part of the team behind OR 2.0, it’s more than likely that she’ll pop up again in the future… probably when the AI ends up causing more serious problems! CHICAGO MED will be back on January 4 to kick off the second half of its eighth season, so keep watching to see what happens next, and as always, you can check back here at SoapsInDepth.com for more updates on where you can see your favorite stars outside of daytime!
