Peter Bergman Reveals Why Jack Fell For Sally on Y&R (EXCLUSIVE)
Some fans may have been surprised when Jack made a connection with Sally on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but anyone who’s aware of the Abbott patriarch’s romantic history should have known he has a thing for that type — remember Phyllis? “Isn’t it funny,” Peter Bergman (Jack) mused to Soaps In Depth. “There is, in Sally, a whole lot of Phyllis! From red hair to opportunist tendencies to an unapologetically herself nature to her.”
However, the actor doesn’t believe his character necessarily sees Phyllis in Sally at all. “I just think that same thing has gotten Jack interested,” Bergman explains. “She’s not like everybody else. And what started as ‘Here’s somebody who’s just fighting for success and not apologizing for it,’ it reminded him of himself initially. And over time he’s come to just enjoy her company.”
Jack has been flying solo since his split with Phyllis, and that was a good long while ago. “We’ve never seen Jack this alone before,” Bergman admitted. “We’ve never seen him unattached to anyone this long. I mean, Jack’s in that big house by himself. I mean, Traci comes to town, Ashley comes to town… Jack and Mrs. Martinez are keeping that existence going! And here’s somebody who, every time she enters a house, brings all this sunshine with her.”
So it turns out that Sally was exactly the refreshing tonic that Jack needed at this particular time in his life. “Jack is tiptoeing his way in and finding her absolutely charming,” Bergman confided. “And to say that Jack has fallen in love with her… he’s certainly falling in like with her.”
Of course, there are still a lot of things that Jack doesn’t know about Sally and when he eventually finds out what she did in Los Angeles (faking a terminal illness, abducting her romantic rival… those kinds of things!), it will definitely change how he feels about the feisty redhead!
