Robert Newman Says Goodbye to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

While the mystery of what happened to Ashland Locke on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS has only just begun, actor Robert Newman took to YouTube to share a video thanking fans for watching and confirming that his run as the villain had come to an end. Newman, who was best known to soap fans for playing Josh Lewis for decades on GUIDING LIGHT, took over the role of Ashland from Richard Burgi in January 2022.

“Just to clarify, the scenes you saw the other day, Ashland dying at the hands of Nick, were in fact my last scenes on the show,” Newman explained. “The end of my contract. Those were shot about five weeks ago. Since then, I have come home to my family and I couldn’t be happier about that.

“But I did want to take a minute to say thank you to you,” the actor added, addressing his Y&R fans directly. “And also to just do a shout-out to the cast and crew of Y&R who were just fantastic. Just wonderful people to work with and I couldn’t have been happier. I very much enjoyed playing the character. I hope you enjoyed seeing me in the role. I know for some of you it was a tough transition from Richard’s work. But I really, really enjoyed playing the character and working with these fantastic people.”

While Newman’s run on Y&R has come to an end, the actor remains very busy and is already preparing for his next role! “If any of you are in the Michigan area,” he reported, “I am starting rehearsals today at the Barn Theater in Augusta, MI. I will be playing the role of Dennis Dupree in Rock of Ages, the musical. So if you want to come out to see me in person, do so.”

While his time on Y&R may have been brief, it was still incredibly memorable for the Daytime Emmy nominee. “Again, thank you so much,” Newman declared. “It was really a lovely time. And maybe I’ll see you again one day… you never know!”
