THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS Alum Sharon Farrell Dead at 82
Veteran actress Sharon Farrell died at the age of 82 on May 15. Her sister, Dale Candice Forsmoe, shared the sad news in a Facebook post on Aug. 2. “My sister, Sharon Farrell, passed away at LA Downtown Medical Center May 15, 2023. I do not know the cause of death.”
“Just learned my friend Sharon Farrell passed last May at 82,” Jon Lindstrom shared on Instagram. “Wish we’d all known. She’d had a hard road the last several years, one she certainly did not deserve. In fact, a lot of her life was difficult, but she was indomitable. Funny, warm, talented, and smart. I loved her. And the world is less colorful already.”
During her lengthy career in show business, Farrell appeared in countless television shows and films. She joined the cast of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS in 1991 as Nina’s mother, Florence Webster, and made recurring appearances on the soap until 1997.
Farrell’s first role was in the 1959 film Kiss Her Goodbye and went on to appear in television shows like ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, MY FAVORITE MARTIAN, WAGON TRAIN, GUNSMOKE, THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, and I DREAM OF JEANNIE throughout the ‘60s. In the ‘70s, the actress starred as Lenore in the cult horror movie It’s Alive and continued appearing on the small screen in shows like THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER, POLICE WOMAN, and MAN FROM ATLANTIS.
In the ‘80s, Farrell could be seen playing Detective Lori Wilson on HAWAII FIVE-O, as well as in films like Can’t Buy Me Love and Night of the Comet where she played the mother of Catherine Mary Stewart (ex-Kayla, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) and Kelly Maroney (Tina, ONE LIFE TO LIVE). “Such terribly sad news,” Stewart shared on Instagram. “We have lost an icon. RIP, Sharon.”
Following a 1999 episode of the primetime series JAG, Farrell’s final acting work was in the streaming web series BROKEN AT LOVE in 2014, where she played Grandma Geraldine.
