Why Does Jill Hate Mamie on Y&R? — Jess Walton Speaks Out!

Tags:

For longtime fans, seeing Jill and Mamie bickering again on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS feels like old times. But newer viewers might not understand why there’s so much animosity between the two women.

“It’s Mamie’s arrogance and how much she enjoyed stepping on Jill’s toes all of these years,” Jess Walton (Jill) explained to Soap Opera Digest. “Mamie was always judging Jill, who in turn just hated the influence Mamie had with John. When Jill was married to him, she never felt welcome in her own home, and as far as she’s concerned, that disrespect is continuing because Mamie bought into Chancellor-Winters without letting Jill know. That really made her angry.”

Years ago, Jill was happy to let Mamie leave Genoa City with a million dollars in the hopes of never seeing her again. But when she invested that money and was able to turn it into a small fortune, Mamie came back to town and the rivalry resumed as though no time had passed at all.

“Mamie was always so damn sanctimonious and holier-than-thou and that always pissed Jill off,” Walton confided. “Mamie still knows how to really push Jill’s buttons.”

When Mamie came back for a brief visit back in March to attend the bicentennial gala, Jill tried to make nice but it didn’t quite work out. “Jill went out of her way to be kind to this woman and it got thrown back in her face, which was very irritating,” the actress declared. “Mamie has always irritated Jill so much, but Jill did make an attempt for peace, so she can’t be blamed for how Mamie is acting now.”

Could Jill and Mamie ever get on the same page and put an end to this rivalry? In soaps, you never know what twists and turns might be ahead, but Walton is skeptical. “No,” she mused. “Just… no. I don’t see that ever happening.”
