As the corporate complications at Chancellor-Winters continue to spiral out of control on The Young & The Restless, Bryton James (Devon) is excited for the opportunity to sink his teeth into even more dramatic material as the family business fractures around them.

“The writing has been fantastic to create a very rich environment for drama because no matter what, if anybody disagrees with each other, it’s a little bit deeper because it’s family relationships,” the actor told Soaps In Depth. “And then Devon even has his significant other on the board, too. So any time Abby may disagree, it’s going to cause some problems, too.”

However, right now, Devon and Abby are mostly on the same page. It’s Billy who Devon has a major problem with, believing the Abbott is angling to take control of Chancellor-Winters out from under the Winters family side of things. But is he just letting his personal feelings cloud his judgment?

“He has very strong beliefs,” James admitted of his alter ego. “I know sometimes he’s a little stubborn and will go against his real feelings if he’s trying to be loyal to family. I think his loyalty to family perhaps sometimes outshines his… intelligence. But of course, Devon can admit when he’s wrong. Usually, his instincts have been right most of the time throughout his life, so he has a reason to trust them.”

Having played Devon since 2004, the Daytime Emmy winner knows his character inside and out and understands where he’s coming from. “He’s a little rough around the edges,” James explained. “He didn’t grow up in this world like the Abbotts and the Newmans. I think it’s fun, though, to play that. It’s fun to play that he’s a little hotheaded in these corporate environments. And it’s fun to have some pushback too. I love the stuff with Jason [Thompson, Billy].”

Will Devon and Billy ever see eye-to-eye? Or will all the in-fighting spell the end of Chancellor-Winters? You’ll just have to keep watching Y&R as the drama continues to unfold!
