Soap characters are never what they seem, and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS newcomer Audra Charles is no different! Actress Zuleyka Silver told Soaps In Depth that this high-powered businesswoman isn’t just in Genoa City to help take Chancellor-Winters public. “No, not at all,” she teased, adding that Audra has “a very specific reason” to be in town.
Silver has played roles on shows like HAWAII FIVE-0, 9-1-1, and YOUNG SHELDON, but she’s really excited about her Y&R character. “Audra is very confident and strong, but there’s still vulnerability underneath that we’re going to see as the weeks progress,” she previewed. “The more time she’s there, she starts cracking a bit. But she’s really dynamic, really strong. She knows what she wants. So she’s definitely a force to be reckoned with.
“And she’s also just really fun,” the actress enthused. “I’m having such a fun time playing her. Every time I think I have her figured out, I read the next episode and I’m like, wait, no, there’s this other layer to her. There’s this other side. She’s just really dynamic and strong and I love her.”
Before she began filming, Silver sat down with the soap’s headwriter, Josh Griffith, to get some context and background about her character so she would know how to play her as she interacted with the citizens of Genoa City. “So that did give me insight into what Audra’s intentions and motivations really are going into this.”
However, there are things that the audience doesn’t yet know about this particular newcomer. “Let’s just say that she has ulterior motives,” Silver teases of Audra’s reasons for accepting this job in Genoa City. “She has secrets that will be revealed sooner than later.”
And as the viewers continue to learn more about Audra and the secrets she’s keeping, so is her portrayer. Because Griffith didn’t tell her everything during their initial meeting! “He kept a few surprises that I just learned recently,” Silver revealed. “But I kind of like that. I even told him, you don’t have to give away all of the surprises, just enough to kind of get me going and enough to where I know my relationships with the characters I’m coming across.
“But there are a couple of surprises that I learned recently where I was just like, ‘Oh my God! I can’t believe it!’” she added. “He didn’t inform me of that during our meeting. But that’s kind of what makes it exciting also, as an actor, that I’m finding out these things week by week and it keeps my wheels turning.”
So stay tuned to Y&R to see what secret connections Audra has in Genoa City and what kind of drama she stirs up!
