Renewed DAYS OF OUR LIVES Goes Back Into Production

Back in November, fans were stunned when DAYS OF OUR LIVES released the entire cast from their contracts before going on hiatus, but thankfully, just over a week later, news came that the soap had been renewed through 2021. Now, NBC has made that renewal official as they announced the cast and crew would be coming back for a record 56th season. “From our incredibly loyal fan base to our wonderful writers, cast, and crew, the enthusiasm for DAYS never wavers,” said Bruce Evans, executive vice president, current programming, NBC Entertainment. “We’re incredibly thrilled to bring viewers another season of a show that has cemented its place in television history and touches all generations.”

DAYS executive producer Ken Corday added, “We are most grateful to NBC for their enduring faith in the future of DAYS and we are excited to continue developing compelling stories to your loyal family of fans into this new decade.”

After fans went into a panic learning the cast had been released from their contracts, actors took to social media to reassure them, noting that it was a cost-cutting measure. Because DAYS had been taping eight months in advance when they decided to take a break over the holidays, there was no reason to pay people when they’re not working for months.

And now, cast member James Reynolds (Abe) has revealed that they’re all preparing to get back to work very soon! “Back on DAYS set on Monday!” he shared on Instagram. “Nice to see castmates again.” And because DAYS had been taping so far in advance, the drama in Salem will continue uninterrupted… and for another year to come. (Hopefully, many years to come!)
