Joey Novak first appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL in the June 30, 2021, episode leaving fans with plenty of questions about who this guy is. Well, the actor playing Joey is Patrick Zeller, who has previously appeared in small roles on the soaps GUIDING LIGHT, AS THE WORLD TURNS, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and ALL MY CHILDREN. He can also be seen in the movies Just One More Kiss, No Reservations, and Fugitive Zero.
The Novaks are one of the Five Families that run the city of Port Charles, and are likely related to the Novak family who was central to the ABC soap RYAN’S HOPE back in the ‘80s. In fact, Joey could be related to Joe Novak, who was played by actors like Roscoe Born and Walt Willey during his run on the classic sudser. Vincent Novak is the current head of the Novak crime family and Joey is said to be his favorite nephew.
Joey Novak appeared in Charlie’s Pub where he invited himself to sit down opposite Damian Spinelli, who tried to excuse himself. But Joey introduced himself and said that his family had heard all about Spinelli’s skills and wanted him to come work for them now. Spinelli awkwardly tried to talk his way out of it but was rescued when Jason Morgan entered with Britt Westbourne. Jason quickly moved over to pull Joey away and take him outside where he gave him “a message” to take home to his uncle.
But it would seem that Joey didn’t quite get the message himself, as he later showed up at Kelly’s to tell Josslyn Jacks that he would be rooting for her PCU volleyball team and sitting right behind Jason and Carly in the stands!
With Sonny Corinthos out of the picture for the time being, the other crime families have been jockeying for position so it’s likely that the Novaks will continue to play a part in future storylines. Whether or not Joey is a part of them, you’ll just have to keep watching GH to find out!
