Michael Recast Temporarily on GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

Viewers were taken aback when they tuned in to the June 1 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL to find themselves asking “Who is the new Michael?” Well, as the announcer said, that’s actor Robert Adamson, who some soap fans might remember as Noah on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, filling in for Chad Duell.

Adamson played Noah Newman from 2012-18 and returned to Y&R again for a bit in 2020, though the role was recast again with Rory Gibson in late 2021. During his career, Adamson could also be seen in shows like IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, LINCOLN HEIGHTS, HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS, and STUMPTOWN.

The character of Michael Corinthos was born back in 1997 and was played by a series of twins before being aged up into a pre-teen in 2002 and played by Dylan Cash. In 2009, Michael was aged even further and the role was recast with Drew Garrett. In 2010, GH recast again, bringing Chad Duell into the role he has continued to play to this day. During his time in Port Charles, Duell has been nominated three times for the Outstanding Younger Actor Daytime Emmy Award, and twice in Supporting Actor, winning that category in 2015.

At this time, there has been no official word from ABC as to why the casting change was necessary in the first place. Unfortunately, with Wiley’s visitation hearing being a major front-burner storyline for the past couple of weeks, there was seemingly no way to postpone the scenes until Duell was available again. According to Soap Opera Digest, it’s only for a few episodes, so Duell will be back before you know it!

GH has been home to numerous temporary recasts in recent years, most recently seeing a new Alexis while Nancy Lee Grahn recovered from back surgery, and a temporary Brando will be seen in Port Charles very soon.
