Who Is Book on GENERAL HOSPITAL?
Some fans might find themselves wondering who is Book on GENERAL HOSPITAL and why does he look so familiar? Well, the character has appeared in scenes set in Pentonville since September 2022, but actor Brad Schmidt had previously played Brando Corbin for a few episodes in June of that year when he temporarily stepped in for Johnny Wactor! Viewers might also recognize Schmidt from his recent roles in series like YELLOWSTONE, THE CHOSEN, and TRUTH BE TOLD.
The Pentonville inmate nicknamed Book first appeared in September 2022 when Spencer Cassadine was shelving books in the prison library and Book got all up in his face, furious at the young man for stealing his job working in the library. Cyrus Renault then interrupted, quoting scripture, and Book warned Spencer that he got lucky this time, but next time he might not have anyone to save him. Cyrus cautioned Spencer for having made Book into an enemy and revealed that he got his nickname because he’d once beat a man into a vegetative state with an Oxford dictionary.
In October, Book found Spencer and Cyrus talking in the library again and informed Spencer that Sonny Corinthos wouldn’t be able to keep him safe all the time and Cyrus is just an old man. Spencer just wanted an end to the fighting and asked Book what he wanted. Having been working in the laundry room, Book wanted his library job back but Spencer refused to give it up. When Cyrus ordered Book to leave, things got physical and Cyrus let Book go just as a guard came in. Cyrus claimed Book had a shiv, which the guard then discovered on the inmate so Book was sent to solitary confinement. Spencer, however, realized that Cyrus planted the weapon to get Book out of the picture.
Book was next seen in July 2023 when he entered the prison library where Cyrus was working and ordered him to find him a specific book. When Cyrus refused, Book started throwing books around the room and Drew Cain grabbed him to stop him. After giving Book the novel he was looking for so he’d leave, Cyrus warned Drew to be careful of Book and his cronies
When Drew later found Book harassing Cyrus in the library, he intervened, slamming the thug’s head into a table. Book leaped up and attacked them with a shiv, which is when the guards finally came in. They grabbed Drew and Book to take them to solitary confinement, but Cyrus suddenly collapsed and though Book thought he was faking, Drew believed he was having a heart attack!
