With new safety precautions in place, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL is the first soap to resume production during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Heather Tom can’t wait to get back to work! “I go back on Wednesday,” she excitedly reported to Soaps In Depth. “It seems to be running. It’s very different, clearly. There’s a lot of protocols in place. Everybody’s trying to do their best to make it work so that everybody can stay safe and healthy and the show will go on.
“So Wednesday is my first day to jump in and I’m looking forward to it,” the Emmy-winner continued. “And yeah, I’m looking forward to it. I’m ready to go back.”
Like the other daytime dramas, B&B suspended production in mid-March, but they were the first to go back to work on June 17. Although they were forced to pause after just one day back, the soap was able to adjust their testing protocol to ensure the safety of the cast and crew and resumed taping the following week.
Since B&B ran out of new episodes back in April, the soap has been keeping viewers entertained with classic shows revisiting iconic characters and storylines from the past. “I think they did a great job putting together these theme weeks,” Tom declared. She even checked out some of her old episodes of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS where she played Victoria Newman back in the day. “Yeah, like really old ones!” the actress laughed. “Like the masquerade ball, it was crazy. I showed it to my son and he was like, ‘That’s what your voice sounded like?!’ So yeah, it was nuts to see that. It was really nice to stroll down Memory Lane a little bit.”
Of course, Tom knows that as entertaining as the old episodes are to revisit, nothing can compare to tuning in every day for a new episode full of dramatic twists and turns! “I know viewers like watching those things,” she mused. “I mean, I love watching those shows, too. But I’m sure they are ready for new shows and to see what happens. We stopped midway through a pretty big moment and so I think the viewers are ready for that payoff. And they’re gonna get it. We’re shooting it as we speak!”
