When Harrison went missing on The Young & The Restless, Summer immediately assumed Claire was in on the abduction with Jordan. But even after it was revealed that Clare was just another of Jordan’s victims and nearly lost her life, Summer’s opinion of her newly discovered cousin didn’t really change.

“I do think that Summer is going to be humbled in a lot of ways,” Allison Lanier admitted to Soaps In Depth of her character. “At the same time, I still think that she’s justified in almost everything that she’s done and said, just given the fact that Claire is a new person in her life and has proven herself to be dangerous at times.

“Summer has very good reasons not to trust Claire, especially with a young child,” the actress continued. “Claire wasn’t involved in kidnapping Harrison, but it doesn’t really change the fact that Claire has a dark history and has done horrible things to Summer’s family very, very recently.”

Claire may have started out as Jordan’s accomplice, insinuating herself into the Newman family and luring them into her aunt’s deadly trap, but once the truth was revealed everything changed. Learning she was Cole and Victoria’s daughter whom Jordan stole at birth and raised dripping poison into her ear gave Claire a new perspective on life and she’s tried to make things right with those she’s wronged.

Given that Summer never really trusted Claire’s dramatic change in the first place, it’s likely to be a while before her opinion of her cousin actually changes and she begins treating her appropriately. “You never know in soaps where the writers are going to take things,” Lanier teased. “I think that Summer, if her opinion’s going to be changed, it might be slow to change… but things may happen in the future that might help her along the way.”
